The summer season is almost upon us, and Salama faces its most meticulous and demanding operation, welcoming the Westerdam Cruise Ship, on its way from Almeria and headed to Marseille. Boasting a Dutch flag and a total of 1,981 passengers, the arrival of this particular cruiser has once again become an attraction for the city, due to its spectacular characteristics.
This past 11th of June was not the first time that our port agency in Ceuta is responsible for receiving this impressive cruise ship, since it holds the facilities of this North African port as a reference point. Proof of this are the two stopovers that the Westerdam has planned for this coming summer season (specifically, on the 29th of July and the 15th of August).
Ten hours of perfect operations
Thanks to our specialized knowledge and our extensive experience as a shipping agency in Ceuta, Salama started the "Westerdam" operation several weeks ago. This is considering that we are talking about a sizeable liner that requires a ten-hour stopover in the port of Ceuta, to re-stock between 400 and 500 tons of drinking water for crew and passengers.
This huge ship, apart from the 1,981 passengers in transit, accommodates a total of 805 crew members and more than a dozen musicians and entertainment staff. What do these numbers mean? That we are committed to carry out meticulous work that results in a perfect stopover; for both our agency and the cruise company (including the passengers aboard on holiday).
Some relevant figures
Beyond the many nationalities that (temporarily) inhabit the Dutch transatlantic liner, the Westerdam is unique in its kind. This huge ship holds almost a thousand cabins (many of them with terraces and stunning ocean views) and can reach over 24 knots in open sea.
Its dimensions are equally colossal: this giant of the seas is 32 metres wide and 285 metres long. As if this were not sufficient, the Westerdam offers its passengers first-rate facilities with 9 bars and lounges, 4 restaurants, 3 swimming pools (1 indoor/heated and 2 outside), and a total of 14 elevators to facilitate access to the cabins and common areas.
