Salama attends the annual convention of the International Bunkering Association in London

Our bunkering agency in Ceuta visited London once again to attend the largest international meeting for the fuel supply sector. On February 24 and 25, Salama's representatives shared the stage with more than a thousand renowned maritime professionals, establishing new contacts and analysing the market situation. The events were part of the IP Week (International Petroleum Week) and were an important part of the promotion of bunkering in the port of Ceuta. They also served to highlight the services offered by our company in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Salama participated in the IBIA Annual Meeting 2020 in London together with executives from the Port Authority of Ceuta and other companies in the region with ties to the maritime sector. The various events, meetings and forums were used to share experiences and courses of action between entities that supply fuel to ships, supply agents, maritime service professionals and consignees from different countries.

Among the issues discussed, the actors present placed special emphasis on the commitment to the new IMO 2020 regulations to eliminate air pollution from vessels, the road to decarbonising maritime transport, and the investments necessary in ports and terminals to adapt to international requirements.

During the meetings, Salama highlighted the multiple business options offered in the Port of Ceuta and its strategic position for thesupply of fuel for vessels in the Strait of Gibraltar. Along the same line other benefits were pointed out, such as tax incentives and the wide specialisation of services on offer in the region.

Those present also agreed on the advantages bringing a second barge to Ceuta will have in terms of expanding the bunkering activity. According to the port authority's estimates, this reinforcement will increase the service by fifty ships per month. The organisation also stated that provisioning in Ceuta reached 772,000 tonnes of fuel last year, which is an increase of 5% compared to 2018.

The conference ended with a conversation between the Port Authority of Ceuta and the Spanish representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IOM) about organising a special forum in 2021 that would serve to promote Ceuta port services.

The various events at the IBIA Meeting in London are part of a convention organised annually by the International Bunkering Association aiming to create an international forum that addresses the concerns of industry-related sectors. It should be noted that the entity, founded in 1992, represents professional members of the International Maritime Organisation as a non-governmental consultative entity.
